Improving local communities and changing the world

This year, there were over 150 applicants from all over the world. Dr Le will be joining 19 other young academics in child psychiatry from 17 countries, in an intense leadership program to prepare them on their journey to improving not only their local mental health programs but potentially change the world of child and adolescent psychiatry.
Dr Le will join one other delegate representing Australia, Miss Julia Dray from the University of Newcastle who has a special interest in resilience and mental health problems in young people.
Once in a lifetime opportunity
Dr Le hopes to learn from and be inspired by his DJCFP Fellows and Mentors in his work in Internet Gaming Disorders in Children and Adolescents:
"I hope I can use this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to increase the awareness of Internet Gaming Disorder in children and adolescents. My goal of the program is to make deep connections with my DJCFP Fellows. I hope one day to then collaborate and share data and research techniques with countries from around the world in child and youth mental health, not just Internet Technology disorders." - Dr H K Le
Who was Donald J Cohen?
Donald Jay Cohen (September 5, 1940 – October 2, 2001) was a psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, and director of the Yale Child Study Center and the Sterling Professor of Child Psychiatry, Pediatrics and Psychology at the Yale School of Medicine. According to the New York Times, he was "known for his scientific work, including fundamental contributions to the understanding of autism, Tourette's syndrome and other illnesses". Colleague James F. Leckman said of Cohen, "To be a good child psychiatrist, you have to be a child at heart, and Donald was always willing to be sort of down there on the floor with the kids." Cohen is known for his leadership and changing the face of psychiatry, so it is fitting that this line from his bar mitzvah speech has served him well in his life and he remains an integral part of the IACAPAP Fellowship Program.
